Did I mention that this cranberry dip is a “knock-out” party spread? It is one of the best cranberry dishes that I’ve ever made for the winter holidays. The dip certainly checks all the boxes: 1. festive and colorful, 2. smorgasbord of flavors and 3. extremely simple to make. Best of all, the dip tastes even better when you mix it up ahead of time. The cranberry sauce is homemade — the ingredients include an eceletic combination of foods in your kitchen cabinet which gives a magical flavor combination. The cream cheese spread has some surpirses, too. The cranberry sauce and cream cheese spread are both “one bowl” processes. Dump everything for the cranberry sauce into a pot and let it simmer. Likewise, the cream cheese spread is simply whipped in a mixer with a few other ingredients added in. No baking involved. Serve with crackers and a knife to scoop up the dip. My taste testers loved this party dip.

Cranberry & Cream Cheese Party Dip Recipe Inspiration
I always look forward to fresh cranberries in grocery stores in the wintertime. Tart cranberries pair well with so many other ingredients making for wonderful flavor combinations. This cranberry sauce certainly includes an wide assortment of ingredients. It has fruity tones — apples, pineapple, orange and lemon. And aromatic spices — cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves — are included. I decided that the sauce is very tart and solved this problem by adding brown sugar for sweetness. And it works! Everything melds together.
I served the cranberry sauce is served with a cream cheese spread. Rather than pouring over a block of cream cheese, the cream cheese is “revved” up by whipping it and adding lime juice, jalapeño peppers, red onions and garlic powder. Surprisingly, this combination is of ingredients is pleasing, too, and paired well with the cranberry sauce.
The inspiration for this dish came from a Facebook reel. The Facebook reel content creator tried to convenience me that this is the best cranberry dip ever. She did a good job! I admit, the dip looked tempting. After clicking on enough links, I found the recipe. It is starting point for my “Cranberry & Cream Cheese Party Dip.”
Facebook Reels, Recipes and Cookbooks
The internet certainly has changed the way we view the world. And, I wonder if food magazines and cookbooks are becoming a thing of the past. We have become a visual society. Take my inspiration for this cranberry dip recipe which came from a Facebook reel.
What is a Facebook reel? It is a short video clip of up to 90-seconds with music and audio which shows up on your Facebook feed. The more you click, the more videos the Facebook alogrithm shares with you. Like it’s Instragram and TikToc competitors, the videos are meant to capture your attention. They are teasers for you to learn more about the content creator. And, they can become addictive. Facebook launced reels in September of 2021. In June of 2025, all video content on Facebook is now posted as reels. Fortunately, Facebook has included a method to largely turn off unwanted reels. I wonder how many folks take the time to do that?
Unwittingly, I clicked on a Facebook “cranberry” reel. Now, I have more cranberry videos and reels than I can ever use. Sometimes the Facebook reels include the recipe in the comments section. However, often no recipe is included. Or, you must click on another link which leads you to another format, such as Pinterest — a visual discovery social media platform. And, then we have more links. In my cranberry case, the Facebook link took me to the content creator’s WEB site where I found the recipe. Whew! Recipe.
Two-Part Recipe
This recipe has two parts — I made a homemade cranberry sauce (rather than purchased whole cranberry sauce) and also a whipped cream cheese spread. Both are “one bowl” components and very simple to mix up. The best part of this recipe is that you can make this party dip ahead of time. Even several days in advance. The flavors meld together as they chill in your refrigerator. (However, the dip is too tempting to eat — it won’t last several days.)
Cranberry Sauce. Here are the ingredients for the sauce. Yes, it seems like alot of flavors but I largely went with the content creator’s recipe ingredient list. The apple provides balance to the tart cranberries. And the fruits — pineapple, orange and lemon — also complement the flavor of cranberries. Cranberries are so tart — you do need brown sugar to provide sweetness. (The original recipe called for dates.)
I used crushed pineapple rather than pineapple tidbits or chunks. I also peeled and chopped the apple into small chunks. Since this is sauce is intended to be spread on crackers, everything should be cut into bite-size pieces.
After the apples are prepped, making the sauce is simple. Pour all the ingredients into a heavy pot (including a little water) and let them simmer gently on the stove for 15 minutes. The sauce thickens as it cooks down. Most of the berries will “pop” and the apples will soften. As the aromatic flavors fill the kitchen, it seems like Christmas time! If the sauce sticks to the bottom of the pan, add a little more water.
Transfer the sauce to a non-metallic bowl and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Don’t pour the sauce over the whipped cream cheese until the last minute.
Whipped cream cheese spread. Rather than pouring the cranberry sauce over a block of cream cheese, this recipe included whipped cream cheese. This spread included a few ingredient surprises. Who would add jalapeño peppers, garlic and onions to cream cheese? These flavors add a little “bite” to the spread. Lime juice adds another interesting flavor. And, either intentionally or by accident — it also thins down the spread. Again, I decided to follow most of the Facebook content creator’s recipe ingredients.
To make the spread, get all the ingredients prepped. I included the entire jalapeño pepper which I minced. However, I moved the seeds and pith which reduced the “hot” factor. There was just enough “bite” in the flesh for flavor. A little onion goes along way — I used only 3 tablespoons of diced red onion — and saved the remaining onion for salads and other recipes. I was leary about adding garlic powder, but I did include just a small 1/2 teaspoon. If you don’t have a fresh lime to juice; 1 tablespoon of lime juice concentrate can be substituted.
To finish the spread, the cream cheese is whipped with an electric mixer. This is much easier to accomplish if the cream cheese is softened by letting it sit on the kitchen counter for several hours. So, plan ahead. I used by inexpensive hand-held electric mixer whip the cream cheese rather than doing this by hand with a whip. After the cream cheese is whipped on high speed until it is light and airy, blend in the lime juice. Then mix in the jalapeño peppers and red onion.
Spread the cream cheese onto a serving dish. Or, chill in the refrigerator for several hours to overnight.
When you are ready to serve the party dip; transfer the cranberry sauce and cream cheese spread to a serving platter. Serve with crackers.
Visual Society
I have to admit, I do like the visual aspects of social media to provide inspiration for recipes. However, my heart will always be with those foodie magazines and cookbook images. We have become a visual society with social media. Benefit or nemesis? Are we becoming addicted to social media feeds without realizing it? You decide.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading my blog and just a good old-fashioned recipe. My Knock-Out “Cranberry & Cream Cheese Party Dip” has become one of my favorites for this holiday season. The eclectic combination of ingredients works together. I love the soft and creamy spread. The cranberry sauce is full of aromatic and holiday flavors — not too tart, not too sweet.
Enjoy.
